To Our Valued Patrons and Friends:

On May 4, 2020, Governor Ducey issued an Executive Order allowing dine-in services to resume at establishments in the state beginning yesterday, May 11, 2020, “provided they establish and implement protocols and best practices for businesses to address COVID-19. As we at FLG Terroir consider when the appropriate time to re-open will be, we want you to know that we continue to hold the health and safety of our patrons, employees, and neighbors as our top priority.

We do not take lightly the threat that COVID-19 continues to hold for our country, our state, and our community of Flagstaff. Despite the financial hardship that remaining closed presents for us, we are committed to continue being part of the solution to this health crisis and not part of the problem.

Therefore, we take as our guidance the sum of the guidance measures put forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), beginning with the “Opening Up America Guidelines” issued on April 16. These guidelines begin by putting forth proposed “gating criteria” that states must satisfy before proceeding to phased opening, including the following:

Symptoms: downward trajectory of influenza-like illnesses reported within a 14-day period AND downward trajectory of covid-like syndromic cases reported within a 14-day period;
Cases: downward trajectory of documented cases within a 14-day period OR downward trajectory of positive tests as a percentage of total tests within a 14-day period (flat or increasing volume of tests);
Hospitals: treat all patients without crisis care AND robust testing program in place for at-risk healthcare workers, including emerging antibody testing.

Since the reporting that we have seen in the news indicates that Arizona does not yet meet at least one criterion in each of these categories, we do not yet feel that it is safe for the state to proceed to phased opening. Governor Ducey’s “Returning Stronger” Executive Order issued on April 29 extending his earlier “Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected” order is scheduled to expire on May 15, unless it too is extended. We believe that this then leaves the decision to businesses regarding whether or not to proceed to open. And it is our considered decision that with cases of COVID-19 continuing to rise in the state, with testing rates in Arizona still below levels recommended widely by health professionals, and with necessary supplies such as disinfectants, hand sanitizer, and thermometers still not reliably available, we at FLG Terroir cannot open simply because we cannot ensure the health and safety of our patrons, employees, and neighbors. We miss all our patrons and look forward to the day when we can serve you all again, offering wine, food, service and ambience in accordance with the standards of excellence and care that define our establishment.
